Fixing Folding Closet Doors

Open the door and then loosen the setscrew for the top bracket slightly with a screwdriver. Watch to the end if you want to see the fun part. Close the door to check for smooth operation and to see how the doors meet. Then close it again.

This will push down the pin removing the base of the door from its hinge. Bi fold doors are made of lightweight materials and sometimes the wood cracks around the one or both of the pivot pins. The door leans when this happens and you won t be able to straighten it until you fix the cracks. Hold the door by the side lift it up and out.

Top bracket loosen the set screw on the top bracket and slide the bracket slightly along the track to adjust the space between the top of the doors. Bifold doors are the folding style doors that are most often used for closets. You can do this with carpenter s glue and a c clamp. If your closet door came off the tracks you should be able to easily fix it by removing the door and cleaning the tracks off.

Sliding closet doors are loose and swing in and out. If your doors hang from a top rail and do not have a track on the floor then you need to either replace or tighten down the floor guides. Then grab the door from both sides and lift it off the track and out of the closet. Every home repair must end in fun.

The first thing to check is what type of rail system your sliding closet door uses in order for it to slide. See if the screws holding the guides down need tightening to be more secure. Push or pull the top of the closed door to align its edge parallel to the frame. To adjust the door s position at the bottom simply lift at the bottom and move the pin over to another position on the bracket.

Take out the door by pushing down the roller at the upper open edge and moving the edge back and forth. Then retighten the screw close the doors and check the fit. Bifold closet doors have several very common problems that plague homeowners but luckily they are an easy fix. Bi fold closet doors are some of the most used doors in your house.
